Real Vault Renews Full-Value Insurance Cover for 2026/27 with Increased Limits
Our specie policy has been renewed with an A-rated international underwriter, with higher limits for both storage and transit, covering every client holding at full replacement value on the day of loss.
Real Vault's specie insurance for the 2026/27 period has been renewed and placed with an A-rated international underwriter. Limits have been increased for both vault storage and transit to reflect the growth in holdings following our facility expansion and the rise in the gold price over the past year.
Specie insurance is the specialist class of cover used for precious metals, cash and other high-value physical assets. Unlike a general property policy it is written on an all-risks basis with very few exclusions, and it covers the metal itself at its market value rather than at a fixed sum. Our policy covers all metal in our custody — in the vault, during intake and weighing, and while in transit on movements operated by Real Vault or by our vetted carrier partners — at full replacement value on the day of loss.
'Full replacement value on the day of loss' is the phrase to look for in any custodian's insurance summary. It means that if a bar worth €120,000 when deposited is worth €150,000 on the day a loss occurs, the claim is for €150,000. Policies that insure at declared value on deposit, or up to a fixed sum per client, leave holders under-insured in a rising market.
The renewal followed an inspection of the completed expansion by the underwriter's surveyors, covering physical security, access control, staffing, procedures and record-keeping. Their report is one of the reasons we designed the new intake room and the dual loading bays the way we did; insurers reward separation of duties and documented handovers with better terms.
Insurance is included in our storage and transport fees; there is no separate premium for standard holdings. Clients with unusually large single positions or consignments may be asked to pre-notify us so that limits can be adjusted, but this is rare and we will always contact you in advance.
The insurance confirmation letter for the new period has been uploaded to the Documents section of every client's portal. Institutional clients who require a named-interest certificate — a document confirming that the policy notes their interest in specific bars — should contact their account manager, and we will arrange it with the underwriter.
